Gohar Abelyan is a Research Assistant at the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). She has joined the CHSR in December 2013 and has been mainly involved in projects focusing on smoking cessation, organization of neonatal care services as well as child health and nutrition. Her research interests also include non-communicable diseases. Before joining CHSR, she worked at the child sponsorship department of World Vision Armenia. Gohar also worked as a volunteer at UNICEF and World Vision Armenia (Yerevan ADP), where she was involved in programs focusing on healthcare, child protection and education. In 2015, Gohar earned a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) from the American University of Armenia. During her studies at AUA, she received full merit-based scholarship from AUA and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and other merit based scholarships. She has published her MPH thesis project entitled “A case-control study of risk factors of chronic venous ulceration in patients with varicose veins” in the Journal of Phlebology, which is the only English language journal entirely devoted to venous disease and is officially endorsed by the American College of Phlebology.

 

Armine Abrahamyan

ARMINE ABRAHAMYAN, MS, MPH (2015)

Armine Abrahamyan is a Research Assistant at Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). She has joined the CHSR in March 2014 and has mainly been involved in TB care and Tobacco Control projects. Since 2017 she is a Project Coordinator of “Entrepreneurs in Healthcare” project at the Turpanjian Rural Development Program. Her research interest also focuses on pediatric palliative care. For several years she has worked at Pediatric Oncology and Chemotherapy Department at the National Oncology Center as a psychotherapist. During her MPH studies at AUA she devoted her Master’s thesis project to the exploration of pediatric palliative needs of adolescents living with cancer and their parents. Her thesis work was presented and awarded the Prize for Best Poster in the ASPHER Young Researchers Forum, a pre-conference event at the 8th European Public Health Conference, Milan, Italy. Before earning her Master of Public Health degree (MPH) in 2015 she graduated from the Yerevan State University in 2010 with a Master in Clinical Psychology degree. Armine Abrahamyan has been practicing as a Clinical Psychologist since 2010.

 

Anahit-Demirchyan

ANAHIT DEMIRCHYAN, MD, MPH (1999)

Dr. Demirchyan earned her MD in Pediatrics from Yerevan State Medical University (diploma with honor), and Master of Public Health from AUA Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health. She has also completed a residency program in Pediatrics (Yerevan State Medical University, 1988), a fellowship programs in Human Lactation Management (Wellstart International, 1997), and a clinical fellowship in Child Development (Meyo Clinic, 1998). In 1998 she received Vartkess and Rita Balian Merit Award from AUA for achieving outstanding academic performance and for showing great promise towards a professional career.During 1992-2000, Dr. Demirchyan was the advisor to the deputy minister responsible for mother and child health issues in Armenia. She was the initiator and first coordinator of the National Breastfeeding Promotion Program in Armenia, managing this comprehensive and successful program for seven years. She has authored a manual on infant nutrition for medical doctors, a guide on feeding of low birth-weight and sick neonates for neonatologists, a curriculum on child development for primary health care providers.During her employment at the CHSR since 2000, she carried out numerous public health projects, including assessment of Hepatitis B burden in Armenia, health sector’s needs assessment in Nagorno Karabagh, technical assistance to UNICEF in preparing the follow-up report on the Decade Goals set by UNICEF World Summit for Children. During 2001-2005, she managed a multi-faceted quality assurance program at Nork Marash Medical Center – a tertiary-level cardiac hospital. During 2006-2010, she served as the Senior Research Director for the USAID-funded Primary Health Care Reform Project in Armenia, carrying the primary responsibility for the project monitoring, evaluation, and research activities. Currently, Dr. Demirchyan’s work mainly focuses on research covering a broad spectrum of interests such as child nutrition, health outcomes research, healthcare quality, psychometrics, and mental health. Dr. Demirchyan has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and has made numerous presentations of her work at international scientific meetings and conferences.

 

Aida-Giloyan

AIDA GILOYAN, MPH (2007)
 
Aida Giloyan is a Senior Researcher and Project Coordinator at the Garo Meghrigian Institute for Preventive Ophthalmology of the CHSR.  She obtained her MPH degree from the American University of Armenia in 2007.  After graduating from AUA, she worked in different projects and organizations such as Intra Health International and Project NOVA (funded by USAID), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, OSCE office in Yerevan as a Project Assistant.  Since 2010 she has been working at the Meghrigian Institute and has been coordinating ophthalmologic research and many projects in Armenia and Artsakh. Aida Giloyan authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and has made numerous presentations of her work at international scientific meetings and conferences.
 
 
AUA Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health 

Zaruhi Grigoryan is a Research Assistant at the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). Zaruhi earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in 2015 and immediately after graduation she started working at the CHSR. Zaruhi has been engaged in projects focusing on improving tuberculosis care services, tobacco control and in several ongoing projects of CHSR on preventive ophthalmology and neonatal care services. Her MPH thesis project focused on qualitative exploration of factors that facilitated adherence to anti-tuberculosis treatment in Yerevan, Armenia. During her study in the MPH program, Zaruhi received a merit based full scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and American University of Armenia. Zaruhi also holds a diploma in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Yerevan State University (YSU). During her study at the YSU she was involved in chemical laboratory research and has co-authored several works published in the YSU chemical journal; Chemical journal of Armenia, National Academy of Science of Republic of Armenia; and Proceedings journal, State Engineering University of Armenia (Polytechnic). 

 
VARDUHI HAYRUMYAN, MS, MPH (2016)
Human Protections Administrator, Institutional Review Boards, AUA

Varduhi Hayrumyan is a Research Assistant at the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). She he has joined the CHSR in 2015 and has been involved in a number of projects conducted by CHSR, particularly those focusing on Tobacco Control. Since 2017 she is the Human Protections Administrator of the Institutional Review Boards of the American University of Armenia. She has made numerous presentations of her work at international scientific conferences. She received a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the American University of Armenia in 2016. During her studies she received full merit-based scholarship from AUA and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. She devoted her Master’s thesis project to the investigation of smoking cessation practices among myocardial infarction survivors. Varduhi has also earned a Master of Science (MS) in Applied Biosciences (Healthcare Biotechnology) from Yerevan State University, Department of Biology with an honor diploma.

TSOVINAR HARUTYUNYAN, MPH (1999), PhD

Dr. Tsovinar Harutyunyan is an Assistant Professor at the Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health of the American University of Armenia (AUA). She is a Research Consultant at the CHSR. Dr. Harutyunyan earned her PhD in Health Services Research from the College of Health and Human Sciences of the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte in 2011.  She obtained her MPH degree from the American University of Armenia in 1999. After graduating from AUA, she worked for more than 7 years at the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development on a number of studies focusing on needs assessment and evaluation of public health interventions. Currently Dr. Harutyunyan teaches graduate courses in problem solving in public health, social and behavioral aspects of public health, and survey research methods, and an undergraduate course on basics of healthy lifestyle. Dr. Harutyunyan has authored several peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work at international scientific meetings and conferences. Before joining AUA Dr. Harutyunyan worked as a Graduate Research Assistant/Teaching Associate in the UNC Charlotte, where she instructed courses in social determinants of health and issues of health and quality of life.

 

Arusik

ARUSYAK HARUTYUNYAN, MD, MPH (2009)

Dr. Arusyak Harutyunyan is a Senior Researcher in the CHSR. She has joined the CHSR in May 2008 and has mainly been involved in Tobacco Control projects. Dr. Harutyunyan  earned her MD from Yerevan State Medical University in 2007 and Master of Public Health from American University of Armenia in 2009. She has also completed a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Yerevan State Medical University, 2011) and has been practicing as an Obstetrician/gynecologist.
In 2008 she received Vartkess and Rita Balian Merit Award from AUA for achieving outstanding scholastic record and for showing great promise towards a professional career.
Dr. Harutyunyan  has led multiple quantitative and qualitative studies. Dr. Harutyunyan was one of the organizers and leaders of the symposium “Implementing Smoke-Free Work sites in Central/Eastern Europe and Central Asia”, as part of the 5th European Conference on Tobacco or Health in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Harutyunyan has been a Teaching Associate in the Master of Public Health Program (MPH) for the courses General Principles of Public Health Problem Solving and Inferential Biostatistics; she has been a guest lecturer in several MPH courses. Currently, Dr. Harutyunyan is the Coordinator (a volunteer position) of the Coalition for Tobacco Free Armenia, a union of 30 NGOs. In 2012, she was competitively selected to receive a Scholarship and completed the Global Tobacco Control Certificate Program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2015, Dr. Harutyunyan completed the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center’s Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Training Program and received Mayo Clinic’s Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certificate. 
She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work in various international scientific conferences.

DZOVINAR MELKOM MELKOMIAN, DVM, MPH (2011), MBA (2013)

Dr. Dzovinar Melkom Melkomian is a Research Associate at the CHSR. She graduated from the State Agrarian University in 2003, with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. In 2011 she received a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) and in 2013 a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree; both from the American University of Armenia (AUA). She began working at CHSR immediately after receiving her MPH degree in 2011.  She received a merit based named scholarship during her studies in the MPH program.

 

 

 

Lusine-Musheghyan

LUSINE MUSHEGHYAN, MA in Social Work, MPH (C)

Lusine Musheghyan is the MPH Recruitment Coordinator and Research Assistant. She earned her MA in Social Work degree from Yerevan State University in 2012. During her studies at AUA she received full merit-based scholarship from AUA and the Ministry of Education and Science of RA. She has been involved in a few CHSR projects since 2012. Before joining CHSR Lusine Musheghyan worked in different organizations, both governmental and nongovernmental, and focused on projects dealing with health quality related assurance, patient safety, social and health policy research and analysis. Her MPH thesis project focuses on healthcare quality and patient safety in the intensive-care units of Yerevan hospitals.

VARDUHI PETROSYAN, PhD, MS

Dr. Varduhi Petrosyan is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences from the American University of Armenia (AUA) Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health (Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian SPH). She is the Dean of the Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian SPH and Director of the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development. Dr. Petrosyan was the Associate Dean in 2007-2015. She earned her PhD from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management. She also has a Master of Science, focusing on environmental health, from the University of Idaho and a degree in biochemistry from Yerevan State University. She has successfully led health services research projects in Armenia and the region focusing on public health services, tobacco control, tuberculosis control, primary care, ophthalmic care, diabetes care, environmental health, and determinants of health disparities among women and other vulnerable populations, including working migrants, diabetes patients, tuberculosis patients, pregnant women, and children 0-7 years old. Dr. Petrosyan teaches graduate courses in health services research, program evaluation, and comparative health systems. She has been appointed to be a member of the Country Coordination Mechanism for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria programs in the Republic of Armenia. In 2012-2014, Dr. Petrosyan was the Advisor on Health Reforms to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on a voluntary basis. Prior to her arrival to AUA, she held a position of Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she conducted research on comparative health systems (focusing on health spending and cross national comparison of quality) in member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Dr. Petrosyan has authored many peer-reviewed publications and has extensively presented her work at international scientific meetings and conferences. She is currently the Associate Editor of the International Journal for Equity in Health, an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal presenting evidence relevant to the search for, and attainment of, equity in health across and within countries.

 
 
SERINE SAHAKYAN, MPH (2015), B.S., RN

Serine Sahakyan a Research Assistant in the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development. Her research experience involves designing and implementing quantitative and qualitative research projects in public health, including the fields of tuberculosis, nursing (Nationwide assessment of nursing education, practice and policy), and dental care in Armenia. She presented her work, including the master thesis project, in multiple international scientific conferences. Serine has been a Teaching Associate for the Master of Public Health Program courses Survey Research Methods, Qualitative Research Methods, Biostatistics, and Social & Behavioral Sciences in Public Health, and for the Basics of Healthy Lifestyle undergraduate course. Serine earned her MPH degree from Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health in 2015. During her MPH studies she earned merit based scholarships, and the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Education and Science awarded her third place in a nationwide competition for “Best Student” among health professionals in 2015. Serine also earned a Nurse Manager diploma and a B.S. in Pharmacology. 

 

Meri-Tadevosyan

MERI TADEVOSYAN, MPH (2011)

Meri Tadevosyan is a Research Assistant and Financial Officer at the CHSR since 2011. She obtained her MPH degree from AUA in 2011. She also has a Master of Economics from the Yerevan State University of Economics. During her studies at AUA she received merit based Kodjayan Scholarship. Her thesis work “Influence of Financing and Payment Mechanisms on Medical Decision Making: Vaginal Delivery vs. Cesarean Section” was presented at 33rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) in Chicago, Illinois, USA. In 2012-2013 she was a member of the organizing committee of the International Scientific Symposium on Emerging Issues in Environmental and Occupational Health: Mining and Construction in Transition Economies. She participated in trainings on Business Writing, Financial accounting, and Economic Evaluation Methods: Understanding Cost-Effectiveness. From 2000 to 2007 she worked in a Pharmacy, as a Director’s Assistant and in other private companies as a Marketing Manager and Shareholder.

 

Nune-Truzyan

NUNE TRUZYAN, DVM, MPH (2003)

Nune Truzyan is a Senior Researcher at the CHSR. She completed her Master of Public Health degree at AUA in 2003. Prior to her work at AUA, Nune Truzyan was a Project Coordinator and Vice President of the Scientific Association of Medical Students of Armenia NGO. Since 2005 she has been involved in CHSR projects utilizing qualitative and quantitative research methods, covering such important topics as public health and primary healthcare services, state obstetric and child health certificate programs, assessment of healthcare system of Kashatagh region of Artsakh and development of strategic plan for its improvement, Millennium Development Goals, healthy nutrition and lifestyle, food safety microbiological and environmental research. During the last nine years, Nune Truzyan has been intensively involved in tuberculosis-related research conducting and leading different projects, interventions, and assessments granted by international and local funds. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and has made numerous presentations of her work at international scientific meetings and conferences.
